Forget about La Punta and Let Us Talk About St. Maria di Leucaa

So we left Brindisi and sailed into La Punta, Otranto. It was a crappy port so why waste your and my time writing/reading about it. Let's fast forward to the Southern most port on the heel of the boot of Italy, Saint Maria di Leuca. We can call it Leuca for short. Actually that was its original Roman name. It was named after the beautiful white mermaid, Leuca. It wasn't until sometime around 1 AD that Peter renamed it for Mary thus Saint Maria di Leuca.

This is a vacation destination with Villas galore. We'll post a Villa only posting soon after this one. Needless to say the town was mostly closed down for the season but still proved to be one of our most wonderful ports thus far. Yes, it was even better than Trani, Mr. Habormaster.

There is a church on the hill. Mussolini had the pair of zillon step stone stairs built there. It was worth the climb to the top as the Pope was up there. He seemed kind of stiff but I did get him to slap me a high five!

Leuca had facilities for sailors which made it nice. They even had signs telling us where things are at. Now there is an idea who's time has come.

We watched surfers from the shore and had croissants for breakfast. It was a beautiful port. Just take look at the photos.
