Musings of a New Yacht Owner

Of all life's major purchases, buying a boat is the most emotional one.  There is never any financial incentive to do so.  It is always a dream.  Somehow, we stopped holding the visionary heart space of a dream.  It became about the business deal.

A boat is an incredible vehicle.  It's the promise of a journey, a real adventure.  People become themselves on a boat, there is no place to hide.  A boat can actually take you to the stars, it is the space for dreaming.  What better place to raise children?
The family memories of high adventure on a boat will become the stuff of family legend, not the highest video game score.  We'd love to help create some of these memories with our grandchildren, they'd be worth far more than the few shekels we could leave to them.  Yes, stuff will break, "disasters" will happen, things will fall overboard.  But heroes will emerge from this, sometimes unlikely heroes who will discover what they are truly made of.  When it gets too difficult/uncomfortable/scary you can't just put down your controller and go to the fridge.

A family vacation home that moves around and is also a sport will create real teamwork, before you know it, the separate members will bond to form a single, smoothly operating unit.
It makes NO FINANCIAL SENSE to buy a boat...it's a heart space, yet marinas are full of boats.  They are spaces to learn, grow, make mistakes, become self-reliant and masterful at a new skill in the real world.
We live in an unreal world where the measure of a man is money and the worth of a woman is her attractiveness to men.  The world doesn't need more bankers and bean counters, it needs more heroes.
